Friday the 13th

A group of young people make the mistake of trying to reopen the wrong campground.

This little game changer came out in 1980.  It starred Betsy Palmer (kinda), Adrienne King, and Jeannine Taylor.  It was written by Victor Miller and directed by Sean S. Cunningham.

This is an oddity for this site. Let me tell you why.

I first posted this over a decade ago. I did so as a Horror fan who believed himself not a fan of Slasher movies. Oh, Nightmare on Elm Street was fine, Halloween was champion, but guys like Friday the 13th weren’t my bag. I’d watch them–I watch most anything Horror related–but give me a monster or ghost any day.

The review I wrote then wasn’t a diss or a praise, but somewhere in between. I enjoyed the movie more than I expected, and that’s always a delight. But I wouldn’t have called it a favorite or anything. I thought I’d never watch it again.

It probably won’t surprise you to read that I’ve watched it several times since. I even sought it out when it was playing in a local theater. And every time I walked away a little fonder of the picture.
Which brings us to the oddity.

Technically this should be a Golden Oldie. However, due to the reboot, it no longer stands on site. And it no longer reflects my opinion of the flick. Thus for this posting, I’m rewriting large chunks of it. Probably not all of it–the Viewing Thought section is the least likely to change–but a substantial amount.

So when I finish, the reboot of the site will inspire a reboot of this review.
An oddity for this site. Probably.

In any case, let’s take a little ride in the Wayback machine to the last campground anyone with any sense would ever want to go to… Or perhaps just turn the page.  Safer that way, really. After all, anyone who goes to Camp Crystal Lake is of course doomed…
