The Ape Man

A doctor chooses deadly means to save himself from a condition a good shave would solve.

This unfortunate flick came out in 1943. It features Horror Legend Bela Lugosi, Louise Currie, and, ugh, Wallace Ford. Barney A. Sarecky takes credit for writing this, and William Beaudine takes credit for directing.

Another Golden Oldie down. And if I review another movie with Wallace Ford in it it’ll be too soon… ugh.

The reason I pick movies for this site bears absolutely no resemblance to reason.

Case in point, this movie.

I watching The Ape Man for the express purposes of watching the sequel, Return of the Ape Man. Makes sense, right? You start the story at the beginning, right?

Thing is, I should have known better. Return of the Ape Man is as much a sequel to The Ape Man as The Return of Dr. X is to Dr. X. Or Kingu Kongu no gyakushû/King Kong Escapes is to King Kong.

That is to say they have no connection to each other, outside of Bela Lugosi sadly being in both.

Now that I’ve listed at least four flicks more worth your time than this one, let’s go to the next page to see if Lugosi leaves any furniture left or if he chews through them all before the ad for war bonds pops up.
